If you are holding an NUS admit, or drafting for the Round 1 deadline on 29 October 2026, and quietly wondering whether you can actually stay in Singapore after the degree, you are asking the right question and most brochures will not answer it. NUS is still the strongest Singapore MBA for Indian applicants. But the visa rules that decide where your first offer lands change on 1 January 2027, which is seven months before your class starts. This post runs the fee, visa and salary arithmetic with figures from the school and the Ministry of Manpower (MOM).
What the NUS MBA costs for the August 2027 intake
NUS lists tuition for the August 2027 intake at S$98,027.30 before GST, or S$106,849.76 including GST, the same for full-time and part-time formats (NUS MBA Admissions and Funding). A S$15,000 acceptance fee is paid up front, followed by S$45,924.88 in each of the two full-time semesters. At recent exchange rates that is roughly ₹65 to 70 lakh in tuition alone, before rent, which in Singapore is the line item that surprises people.
The programme runs 12 to 17 months full-time, so you pay for fewer months of living costs than a two-year US MBA (NUS programme overview). That is the real cost advantage, and it is a genuine one. A US M7 programme often runs past US$200,000 in total cost over 21 months; NUS lands closer to S$130,000 to S$140,000 all-in for a 17-month stay, by our estimate.
Scholarships exist, including the Excellence and Achiever Awards, an ASEAN award and several regional ones. The NUS page is inconsistent on whether you must opt in, with one section saying consideration "is not automatic". Tick the box. Two scholarships, ADB-Japan and APEC, require submission by the Round 2 deadline of 20 January 2027.
The visa reality: it is the Employment Pass, not the S-Pass
Forum threads often say "S-Pass" for post-MBA jobs in Singapore. That is the wrong pass for MBA graduates. An MBA hire in consulting, finance or tech needs an Employment Pass (EP). The S-Pass is a mid-skilled permit with a lower salary floor, and it is not where your post-MBA job will sit.
The EP has two stages. Stage 1 is a qualifying salary that rises with age. MOM's current figures are S$5,600 a month at age 23 or below, S$7,223 at age 30 and S$8,382 at age 35. For financial services the floor is higher: S$6,200, S$7,982 and S$9,255 at the same ages (MOM Employment Pass eligibility).
From 1 January 2027, new applications face a higher floor: S$6,000 at age 23, S$7,750 at age 30 and S$9,000 at age 35, with financial services at S$8,541 for a 30-year-old. Because you graduate and start job hunting after that date, the 2027 numbers are the ones that apply to you. Not the ones in last year's blog posts.
Stage 2 is COMPASS, a points test where you need 40 points (MOM COMPASS). Salary against local professionals in the sector (up to 20 points), qualifications (up to 20, with top-ranked institutions scoring the maximum), firm-level diversity of nationalities (up to 20) and the firm's share of local hires (up to 20). Bonus points exist for shortage occupations and strategic programmes.
Two details matter for Indians specifically. First, the diversity criterion scores a firm lower if your nationality already makes up 25% or more of its professional staff. Several Singapore tech and banking teams have large Indian cohorts, so the same offer can be worth 0 diversity points at one firm and 20 at another. Second, a firm with fewer than 25 professionals gets a default 10 on both firm criteria, which can make a small consultancy or fund an easier EP than a large bank.
What the salary data says about clearing the bar
GMAT Club, relaying NUS reporting, shows a class of about 120, an average GMAT of 670, six years of average work experience and 93% of full-time graduates employed three months after graduation, with an average base salary of about US$77,109 (GMAT Club NUS profile). The page does not label the reporting year, and those are third-party-relayed figures, so treat them as directional and ask NUS for the current report.
Convert that carefully. At roughly 1.3 Singapore dollars to the US dollar, US$77,000 is about S$8,300 a month on a 12-month basis. That clears the 2027 EP floor for a 30-year-old (S$7,750) with a thin margin. It does not comfortably clear the financial services floor of S$8,541 for the same age. A 33-year-old career switcher at the average salary into a bank would be borderline on Stage 1 before COMPASS even starts.
This is the contrarian point. The NUS average salary is not a floor, it is a midpoint, and the EP floor is a function of your age. Older Indian applicants (the class averages six years of experience, and many Indian admits are 28 to 32) face a higher bar on exactly the offers most of them want.
If you are an IT services engineer targeting a Singapore tech or consulting switch
You are probably 27 to 30 with a pre-MBA salary below the local 65th percentile for your target role, which means C1 (salary) gives you 0 or 10 points and you lean on qualifications (NUS should score at the top tier) plus firm criteria. Target employers with fewer than 25 professionals or with low Indian representation, and treat the Stage 1 floor as non-negotiable. Offers from large Indian-heavy tech teams are the ones most likely to stall.
If you are a banker or CFA holder targeting finance
Your salary expectation is higher, but so is the financial services floor. The 2027 financial services floor is S$8,541 a month at age 30 and rises with age, so a mid-office role at an average MBA salary is tight. Front-office or PE roles clear it more easily. Be realistic with your recruiters about base versus bonus, because MOM looks at fixed monthly salary.
If you are a reapplicant weighing NUS against ISB or a US programme

Common questions
Can Indians stay in Singapore after an NUS MBA? Yes, through an Employment Pass if the employer's offer clears Stage 1 and COMPASS. There is no automatic post-study work visa, so the job offer is the visa.
Is the NUS MBA worth S$106,850? It can be if you target ASEAN roles and your age-adjusted salary clears the floor. If you want to leave Singapore for the US or India within two years, the brand travels less than the fee suggests.
Do I need a GMAT? From the August 2027 intake NUS accepts GMAT, GRE or Executive Assessment scores, and waivers are possible for applicants with four or more years of experience and a strong profile.
What is the minimum work experience? Two years of full-time experience after your bachelor's degree at the time of application.
What this means for Indian applicants
Run three numbers before you pay the S$15,000 acceptance fee: your age at graduation, the 2027 EP floor for that age, and the base salary of the specific role you want. If the third number does not beat the second by a clear margin, the degree may not give you Singapore work rights, only the credential. Our NUS MBA guide for Indian applicants and the post-MBA runway in Singapore cover the career side in more depth. If you want your profile pressure-tested against these thresholds, start with a profile evaluation or explore MBA abroad support.
