The NUS admit is a Singapore work permit, and the ISB admit is an Indian consulting bench

ISB vs NUS MBA Singapore: What Actually Differs Beyond the Weather

If you have an ISB admit in one tab and an NUS offer in the other, and you are a 29-year-old from a Bengaluru product company trying to decide before a deposit deadline, the question is not which brand is stronger. It is which job market you want to be standing in eighteen months from now. This ISB vs NUS MBA comparison sets out the cost, the cohort, the pay data and the visa hurdle, in rupees, for Indian applicants.

The short version: two degrees built for two labour markets

ISB's PGP is a 12-month programme designed around hiring in India. NUS runs a full-time MBA of 12 to 17 months, and its recruiting centre of gravity is Singapore and Southeast Asia. Both are good schools. They are not substitutes for each other, and the people who regret the choice are usually the ones who treated them as interchangeable.

Dimension ISB PGP NUS MBA (full-time)
Duration 12 months 17 months in the intake profiled
Tuition About Rs 38.6 to 40.5 lakh S$99,953 incl. GST, about Rs 75 lakh
Cohort Mostly Indian, India-first recruiting 120 students, 21 nationalities
Average post-MBA pay Rs 37.29 lakh (Class of 2026) About US$82,000 (NUS-reported average)
Work authorisation None needed in India Employment Pass needed in Singapore

Cost: the Rs 35 lakh gap is before living expenses

NUS tuition for the August 2026 intake is S$91,700 before GST, or S$99,953 including GST. At the rate of about Rs 75.48 per Singapore dollar on 8 October 2026, that is roughly Rs 75 lakh in tuition alone. ISB's PGP costs Rs 38.6 to 40.5 lakh in fees depending on accommodation, and our ISB fee breakdown puts the all-in figure near Rs 50 lakh.

Add five extra months of Singapore living costs and a longer period without salary, and the all-in gap is larger than the tuition gap. Confirm NUS fees with the school directly, since the figures above come from a third-party summary of the 2026 intake.

Outcomes: compare like with like, and be careful with the numbers

ISB's Class of 2026 recorded 1,117 offers at an average CTC of Rs 37.29 lakh, with a highest offer of Rs 1.56 crore. The NUS site reports that 93 percent of graduates were employed within three months, at an average post-MBA salary of US$82,095, and a three-year-out alumni average of US$170,898.

Do not subtract one headline from the other. The NUS figure is in US dollars and comes from a smaller, more international class. The ISB figure is a rupee CTC from a cohort heavily weighted to consulting and tech in India. Neither source reports a median, so each average is pulled up by its top offers. The fairer question is what a person like you would be offered, which depends on your function and your work authorisation.

If you are an IT services or product engineer who wants to stay in India

ISB is the cleaner path. Recruiting for consulting, product management and general management is concentrated on the Hyderabad and Mohali campuses, and there is no visa gate between the offer and the job. Our read of the ISB Class of 2026 profile is that the programme rewards people who can show a clear India-track career story. The one-year duration also means roughly five fewer months of foregone salary than a 17-month NUS programme.

If you want to work in Singapore or Southeast Asia

NUS has the advantage, and it is a structural one. Its recruiters, alumni and internship pipeline sit where you want to work. ISB does place graduates abroad, and our analysis of ISB international placements in Singapore, Dubai and London shows the share is a minority of the class, not the default outcome. If Singapore is the stated goal, paying ISB fees to reach it from India is the harder route.

The visa question decides more than the brand

Singapore does not hand an MBA graduate a work right with the degree. You need an Employment Pass, which as of the 2026 rules requires a minimum monthly salary of S$5,600, or S$6,200 in financial services, and at least 40 points on the COMPASS framework, which scores salary, qualification, firm diversity and local-hiring support. The same source notes the thresholds rise from 1 January 2027, so check the Ministry of Manpower figures before you commit.

A strong MBA salary clears the salary floor. The harder variables are the employer's own COMPASS profile and whether a hiring manager chooses to sponsor. NUS students compete for these roles with a local network. An ISB graduate pursuing Singapore from Hyderabad competes without one.

If you are a career switcher from a non-engineering background

Switching function and geography at the same time doubles your risk. A switcher who also needs a work pass is asking an employer to take two bets on one candidate. If you are changing industries, the lower-risk sequence is usually ISB first, then a regional move later through a company's internal mobility. Our NUS MBA admission guide for Indians covers the case where Singapore is the deliberate goal.

What this means for Indian applicants

Choose by destination first, then by cost. If your next five years are in India, ISB gives you the job market for roughly half the tuition. If they are in Singapore, NUS gives you the network, and you accept the Rs 75 lakh tuition and the Employment Pass risk to get it. The ISB PGP admissions guide sets out what ISB looks for, and a profile evaluation will show which school your file fits before you spend on applications. Common questions

Is NUS MBA better than ISB? Neither wins outright. NUS is stronger for Singapore and Southeast Asia hiring; ISB is stronger for India hiring at about half the tuition. The better school is the one whose job market matches your plan.

What GMAT do I need for each? The NUS cohort profiled averages a GMAT of 670 (615 on GMAT Focus) with six years of work experience, per the AdmitStreet summary. ISB score and experience ranges are in our ISB GMAT Focus strategy post.

Can I get a Singapore job after ISB? Yes, but as a minority outcome. You would need an employer willing to sponsor an Employment Pass and meet the COMPASS threshold.

Is the extra Rs 35 lakh at NUS worth it? Only if Singapore employment is your goal and you have a plausible sponsored role. For an India-track career, the premium buys little.
