If you are a Bengaluru product manager with a 730 GMAT, holding both an ISB file and an LBS file open in different tabs, the question keeping you up is probably not "which school is better". It is "will I regret paying a crore more if I cannot stay in London?" This post answers that for Indian applicants, using the ISB vs LBS numbers each school has published and one policy change that most comparison pages skip.
What does each MBA cost in rupees?
LBS lists tuition at £123,950 for the 2026 intake, a fixed fee covering the 15 to 21 month programme, plus a small student association charge. Third-party listings are inconsistent about intake year, so confirm the exact figure on the LBS fees page before you budget. At an illustrative Rs 115 per pound, tuition alone is about Rs 1.43 crore, before London rent, which is the bigger swing factor.
ISB's PGP at Hyderabad runs to roughly Rs 38.6 to 40.5 lakh in fees depending on accommodation, and our ISB fee breakdown puts the all-in figure, with living costs, closer to Rs 50 lakh. So the LBS tuition premium alone is near Rs 1 crore, and the all-in gap is wider. Our earlier ISB vs LBS cost comparison covers the loan side; here the focus is what you earn in return.
What do graduates actually earn?
ISB's Class of 2026 recorded 1,117 offers with an average CTC of Rs 37.29 lakh, up 11 percent on the previous cohort, a highest offer of Rs 1.56 crore, and an average salary jump of 156 percent over pre-ISB pay. Business Today does not report a median, so treat the average as the upper half of the story.
LBS's Class of 2025 had 488 graduates, and Clear Admit's summary shows a mean salary of $123,373. Consulting took 40 percent of the class, finance about a quarter and technology about a fifth to a quarter (the article's text and table disagree slightly). 88 percent had an offer within three months. At Rs 88 per dollar, that mean is about Rs 1.09 crore, roughly three times ISB's average, on a cost roughly three times higher. Currency choice changes the multiple a little. The shape does not change.
Where do LBS graduates work, and why does that matter?
This is the number Indian applicants should read twice. 43 percent of the LBS class worked in the UK. North America took 12 percent and South East and East Asia 12 percent. South Asia, the closest category to India, took 2 percent. The report does not give an India-specific figure.
So an LBS MBA is, in practice, a UK-sponsorship product for most of its class. The salary above is earned in sterling-linked markets, and your ability to earn it depends on work authorisation.
Does the shorter UK visa change the maths?
Yes, and this is the part that decides more outcomes than tuition. The UK is cutting the Graduate Route from two years to 18 months for applications submitted on or after 1 January 2027. Students who apply by 31 December 2026 keep two years. PhD graduates are exempt. The visa cannot be extended, though holders can switch to a route such as Skilled Worker.
An Indian applicant starting LBS in 2027 will graduate under the 18-month rule. That is 18 months to convert a graduate-route visa into employer sponsorship, in a hiring market where the employer pays the sponsorship cost. I have not seen LBS publish the share of international graduates who needed sponsorship, so ask the admissions office directly and note the answer.
If you are an Indian IT services engineer targeting UK consulting
Your path to LBS recruiting is harder than the headline 40 percent consulting share suggests, because that share is of a class mixing UK, EU and global profiles. ISB's consulting pipeline, meanwhile, is built for you. Accenture alone made over 100 offers in the Class of 2026, and our post on ISB consulting placements walks through the firm list. If your goal is consulting and you have no UK work history, ISB gives a higher probability of a good outcome per rupee.
If you are a banker or investor aiming at London finance
This is the profile where LBS earns its premium. London finance recruiting is local, relationship-heavy, and the school's alumni density in the City is the asset you are buying. Finance was about a quarter of the Class of 2025. If you want to be a London investor, ISB is a weaker route, and the extra crore is a bet you take with your eyes open. Read our guide to the LBS visa and Europe market before committing.
Common questions
Is LBS worth it over ISB for an India-track career? Usually not. If you plan to return to India, ISB's average of Rs 37.29 lakh is earned without a sponsorship hurdle, and the India network is stronger. LBS's South Asia share was 2 percent in the Class of 2025, which tells you where its recruiting energy sits.
Can I use LBS to come back to India at a higher salary? Some do, but the report gives no India figure, so you cannot verify the claim. Treat consultant promises of an India premium as unproven until a school publishes it.
How much does the 18-month visa really cut? Six months out of 24. Those six months matter most in the slow-hiring winter, when firms delay sponsorship decisions.
Does ISB help with international placement? Barely, by volume. International offers rose to 30 from 26 in the Class of 2026, out of 1,117 offers. If international work is your goal, ISB is not the primary route.
What this means for Indian applicants
The honest summary is that ISB and LBS are not competing for the same applicant. ISB suits the person building a career in India, wanting a one-year MBA at roughly Rs 50 lakh all-in. LBS suits the person who has a London finance or consulting target, a sponsor-ready profile, and the tolerance for an 18-month visa clock. If you are unsure which describes you, the ISB PGP admissions guide sets out what ISB expects, and a profile evaluation will show you which school your file fits before you spend on applications.
