If you are a Mumbai-based strategy manager with a 720 GMAT and you keep telling friends that INSEAD Singapore is "basically the Asia version of ISB", the ISB vs INSEAD decision deserves a harder look than that line allows. The two programmes both run about a year, but they publish very different evidence about where graduates end up. This post is for Indian applicants who want an Asia-weighted career and need to know which claims the data actually supports.
ISB vs INSEAD: what each programme actually reports
ISB's Class of 2026 report is an India-heavy document. Business Today's coverage puts the average CTC at Rs 37.29 lakh, up 11 percent on the previous cohort, with 1,117 offers, a highest offer of Rs 1.56 crore, and international offers rising to 30 from 26 the year before. Consulting, technology and BFSI drove hiring, and Accenture alone made over 100 offers.
INSEAD's Class of 2025 covers 929 graduates. According to INSEAD's career statistics, median salary was EUR 100,000, median sign-on bonus EUR 28,900, and 81 percent had an offer within three months of graduating. Management consulting took 50 percent of the class, technology 18 percent, corporate roles 17 percent and financial services 15 percent.
Here is the gap that matters for this comparison. INSEAD reports Asia Pacific at 23 percent of job locations and Northern and Western Europe at 31 percent. The page does not split out Singapore, India or any single country. So the popular belief that the Singapore campus "outweighs" Fontainebleau for Indian recruiting cannot be proved or disproved from the headline report. If a consultant or admissions site quotes you a Singapore or India placement figure, ask where it comes from.
The fee gap in rupees
INSEAD's tuition for both the August 2026 and January 2027 intakes is EUR 109,860. INSEAD estimates living costs at EUR 32,000 in Singapore and EUR 30,000 in Fontainebleau for a single participant over ten months. At an illustrative Rs 95 per euro, tuition alone is about Rs 1.04 crore, and the all-in Singapore figure is closer to Rs 1.35 crore.
ISB's 2026 PGP fee at Hyderabad is around Rs 40.47 lakh with shared accommodation. Even after adding personal spend, the all-in cost is a fraction of INSEAD's. For a fuller breakdown, see our posts on ISB fees and financing and INSEAD fees for Indian applicants.
The practical consequence: an INSEAD loan only makes sense if the post-MBA salary is in euros, Singapore dollars or dirhams. A Rs 37 lakh salary in India does not service a Rs 1.3 crore liability comfortably.
If you are an Indian consultant or banker targeting Singapore
Start with the structure of the INSEAD class: 50 percent consulting and 15 percent financial services, with Asia Pacific absorbing 23 percent of job locations. Singapore is the obvious hub in that 23 percent, but INSEAD does not publish the share, so plan on competing for a limited pool alongside a very international class. Work authorisation also sits with the employer, not the school. Employers in Singapore weigh an INSEAD degree well, yet an Indian passport holder still needs a sponsor.
ISB offers a different route. The Class of 2026 recorded 30 international offers, a small number against 1,117 total, so Singapore from ISB is possible but never the base case. For an India-based career with a later regional move, ISB plus two years of experience in a Singapore-linked firm can work, and it costs far less.
If you are a product or technology professional
Technology was 18 percent of INSEAD's Class of 2025 placements. At ISB, Amazon, Google, Razorpay and Uber recruited on campus in 2026, alongside e-commerce names such as Flipkart, Myntra and Swiggy. If your plan is a product role in Bengaluru or Hyderabad, ISB's recruiting is built for you. If you want a regional product role in Singapore, INSEAD gives you network access, but nothing in the public data guarantees interview slots.
A decision rule that does not depend on missing data
Ask three questions. First, in which currency do you want to be paid in year three? If rupees, ISB's cost-to-salary ratio wins. Second, can you tolerate a Rs 1.3 crore liability for a salary that, per the Poets&Quants report on the Class of 2025, averaged about $121,000 across all graduates? Third, is your Asia plan based on named employers that have hired INSEAD graduates into Singapore, or on a general impression? If you cannot name the employers, the campus is not a strategy.

What this means for Indian applicants
The honest summary is that ISB is the lower-cost, India-first choice with a published and verifiable placement record, and INSEAD is the higher-cost, globally portable choice whose Asia story is plausible but not itemised. If your career goal is India-track, with perhaps a regional posting later, start with ISB and read the ISB PGP admissions guide to plan your application. If you are a mobile consultant or banker with a funded plan for Singapore, INSEAD is worth the premium, but only if you have named employers and a financing route.
Our profile evaluation is designed to answer the practical question: does your profile fit ISB, INSEAD, or both?
Common questions
Is the INSEAD Singapore campus better than Fontainebleau for Indian students?
Not provably. INSEAD's career statistics list regions, not campuses or countries, and the degree and tuition are identical across campuses. Singapore may put you closer to Asian recruiters, and Fontainebleau closer to European ones, but the school does not publish a campus-level placement split. Choose the campus based on the employers you can name, not on reputation.
Is ISB worth it compared with INSEAD for a Singapore job?
ISB is worth it if your goal is India first. Its Class of 2026 reported 30 international offers out of 1,117, so a Singapore job is possible but uncommon. INSEAD costs several times more, so the Singapore job has to be near-certain to justify the loan.
Which has the higher salary, ISB or INSEAD?
INSEAD reports a median of EUR 100,000 and ISB reports an average of Rs 37.29 lakh, so INSEAD is higher in nominal terms. Adjust for cost of living, tax and the Rs 1 crore or more difference in programme cost before drawing a conclusion.
Can I apply to both?
Yes. The timelines differ, and many applicants apply to both and decide on funding and offers. Use our Hyderabad vs Mohali campus guide if you choose ISB.
