If you are a final-year engineering or commerce student in India with a 7.5+ CGPA and a 650-700 GMAT, London Business School's Masters in Management is probably on your list. It should be. LBS MIM draws 299 students from 65 nationalities, places 92% within three months, and carries a brand that opens consulting and finance doors across Europe. The complication is the UK Graduate Route, which drops to 18 months in January 2027, and Indian families planning around a two-year job-search window are planning around a visa that no longer exists. This post answers the five questions Indian applicants ask most often about LBS MIM.
What does LBS MIM actually cost an Indian family in 2026?
Tuition for the 2026 intake is £52,950, plus a £200 Student Association fee. At the July 2026 exchange rate of roughly ₹108 per pound, that is approximately ₹57.2 lakh in tuition alone. Add London living costs, and LBS itself estimates a total outlay of £80,000 to £85,000 for the full programme year, which translates to ₹86 to ₹92 lakh.
That is higher than HEC Paris MIM (roughly €22,900, or ₹21 lakh in tuition) and higher than ESCP MIM. The premium buys two things: the LBS brand in consulting recruiting, and the London location for finance placements. If you are targeting a consulting role in continental Europe or planning to return to India, the fee premium over HEC or ESCP is harder to justify. If you are targeting UK-based consulting or finance, LBS is the strongest MIM card an Indian applicant can play.
A commitment fee of £2,000 is due within four weeks of your offer, followed by a reservation fee of £6,000 within six weeks. Both are non-refundable and deducted from tuition. Indian families should factor this into their cash-flow planning, as ₹8.6 lakh is locked before the loan even disburses.
If you are an Indian engineering graduate with 0-1 years of experience
LBS MIM is designed for recent graduates with up to two years of work experience. The acceptance rate sits at roughly 10-12%, making it one of the most selective MIM programmes globally, comparable to HEC Paris MIM. Indian engineering graduates from IITs, NITs, and BITS typically have competitive profiles, but the GMAT expectation is real: most Indian admits score between 650 and 700 on the GMAT. LBS does not publish a minimum, but a score below 630 makes the file difficult unless the rest of the application is exceptional.
The academic bar is a UK 2:1 equivalent or a GPA of 3.3 and above. For Indian universities, this roughly translates to 60%+ from a tier-1 institution or 65%+ from a tier-2 college. LBS also accepts the GRE, and English proficiency must be demonstrated with an IELTS 7.0 or TOEFL 100.
Where Indian engineering applicants lose ground: the essay. LBS wants evidence of curiosity beyond the technical degree. A student who has only done engineering internships at TCS or Infosys will need to show breadth elsewhere, through campus leadership, a side project, or a sector pivot narrative. The application does not reward depth in one domain the way an MBA application does.
If you are an Indian commerce or liberal arts graduate
You have a quieter advantage. LBS actively seeks diversity in academic backgrounds, and commerce graduates from SRCC, St. Xavier's, or Christ University are less common in the applicant pool than engineers. The GMAT bar is the same, but the essay space is easier to fill: a commerce student who interned at a Big Four firm and ran a campus finance club has a natural story arc that fits the MIM frame.
The caution for commerce graduates: do not treat LBS MIM as a backup to a UK MBA. The MIM and MBA serve different career stages, and adcoms can tell when the MIM essay reads like a repurposed MBA draft. If you have three or more years of full-time work experience, LBS will redirect you to the MBA programme.
What do LBS MIM graduates actually earn, and where do they work?
The LBS MIM employment report for the Class of 2024 shows 92% of graduates receiving a job offer within three months. The average base salary is approximately £44,500 per year, with bonuses averaging around £12,000. Top-end salaries reach £102,593, but those are outliers, typically in London-based investment banking or strategy consulting roles.
The sector split matters for Indian applicants. Consulting is the dominant recruiter: McKinsey, Bain, and BCG all hire from LBS MIM. Finance is the second-largest sector, with roles in corporate finance, asset management, and equity research. Technology hiring exists but is marginal compared to what Indian applicants might expect.
Here is the critical nuance: roughly 23% of LBS MIM alumni take roles in Asia. For an Indian applicant who plans to return to India after the programme, the salary math changes substantially. A London consulting salary of £44,500 (roughly ₹48 lakh) is strong in the UK context, but an Indian MIM graduate returning to Mumbai or Bengaluru will typically start at ₹12-18 lakh in a strategy role. The LBS brand helps, but it does not command the same salary multiplier in India that a US M7 MBA does. Indian families should model the return-to-India salary, not the London salary, when calculating ROI on the programme.
The UK Graduate Route question: 18 months, not 24
This is the variable that changes the LBS MIM calculus for every Indian applicant applying from now on. The UK Government confirmed in October 2025 that the Graduate Route will shorten from 24 months to 18 months effective January 1, 2027.
What this means in practice: if you start LBS MIM in August 2027, you graduate in mid-2028 and apply for the Graduate Route under the new rules. You get 18 months to find a job and convert to a Skilled Worker visa. That is six months less than the Class of 2026 had.
For Indian applicants in consulting, 18 months is usually enough. MBB and tier-2 consulting firms recruit on campus before graduation, and most offers are confirmed before the Graduate Route clock even starts. For Indian applicants targeting finance or tech roles that recruit off-cycle, 18 months is tight. A candidate who graduates in July 2028 and does not land a role by January 2030 faces a hard visa cliff.
The earlier analysis on the UK Graduate Route for MBA graduates applies in full to MIM graduates. The policy change does not distinguish between MBA and MIM holders.
If you are in the Class of 2026 (starting August 2025, graduating mid-2026), you still qualify for the 24-month Graduate Route, provided you apply before December 31, 2026. This is a real timing advantage, and Indian applicants in the current intake should note it.
Common questions Indian applicants ask about LBS MIM
Is LBS MIM worth it for someone planning to return to India?
It depends on the sector. For consulting, the LBS brand carries weight with McKinsey India, BCG India, and Bain India offices, all of which have hired LBS MIM alumni. For finance, the advantage is thinner: Indian banks and NBFCs do not pay a premium for a UK MIM over a domestic MBA from IIM A or ISB. If your five-year plan is India-based consulting, LBS MIM is defensible. If your plan is India-based banking, the fee-to-salary ratio is unfavourable.
How does LBS MIM compare to HEC Paris MIM for Indian applicants?
HEC Paris MIM costs roughly one-third of LBS MIM in tuition. The FT ranking favours HEC (consistently #1 or #2 globally). The catch: HEC places primarily into French-speaking consulting offices and Paris-based finance. LBS places into English-speaking London. For an Indian applicant who speaks no French, LBS is the safer career bet. For an Indian applicant willing to learn French and target continental Europe, HEC offers better value. The top MIM programmes comparison covers this in more detail.
Can I apply to LBS MIM with a GMAT below 650?
Technically, yes. LBS does not publish a minimum GMAT score. In practice, Indian applicants below 630 rarely make it through, because the Indian sub-pool is competitive and the GMAT is a sorting variable when adcoms compare similar profiles. A 640 with an exceptional extracurricular portfolio and a strong essay can work. A 640 with a standard IT-services resume will not.
What are the application deadlines for LBS MIM?
LBS runs four application stages from October to May for the August intake. Indian applicants should target Round 1 or Round 2 if seeking scholarship consideration. Later rounds are open but scholarship pools thin out. Applications must include a GMAT or GRE score at the time of submission.
