If you are a 27-year-old IT services engineer with a 705 GMAT, you probably opened the ISB website hoping to find the ISB PGP Class of 2028 profile and a clean answer to "do I have a chance?" Here is the honest starting point: that profile does not exist yet. The Class of 2028 is being selected right now, with Round 1 closed on 20 September 2026. What does exist is the Class of 2027, which joined in April 2026, and it is the best available mirror of the room you are trying to enter. This post reads those numbers the way an admissions consultant would, and tells you what each one means for your odds.
The ISB PGP Class of 2028 will be judged against these numbers
ISB welcomed 839 students to the PGP Class of 2027 across both campuses, per coverage of the May 2026 induction. The same report gives the rest of the headline profile:

The Class of 2026 figures come from our earlier Class of 2026 cohort breakdown, and Clear Admit's ISB profile lists that batch at 47 percent women, a mean GMAT of 720, and average work experience of 4.02 years.
One thing we do not know yet: the Class of 2027 average GMAT has not appeared in any press coverage we could find. ISB's official class profile page now shows a Class of 2027 graphic, but until the figure is published in text we will not quote it. Plan around the 720 mean from the Class of 2026 and treat anything lower as a bonus, not a target.
Shift one: the class grew, and Mohali is now half of it
The cohort grew by 13 seats, from 826 to 839. That is a rounding error in admit-rate terms, so do not read it as ISB "opening up". The more useful number is the campus split: 424 in Hyderabad and 415 in Mohali. Mohali is not an overflow campus. It carries almost exactly half the class, with the same curriculum and the same placement process.
For your application, this matters in one practical way. If your preference form ranks Hyderabad strongly for personal reasons, that is fine, but an applicant who signals openness to either campus gives the admissions office more room to fit them in. We have seen Indian applicants from Delhi NCR and Punjab treat Mohali as a quiet advantage: closer to home, and competing for exactly the same recruiters.
Shift two: the gender number softened slightly
The Class of 2026 was 47 percent women. The Class of 2027 is described as "more than 45 percent". That could still be 46 or 47 percent, since press coverage did not give the exact figure, but ISB no longer leads with 47. Read this carefully if you are a woman applicant who has been told that gender alone lifts a 680 GMAT over the line.
Gender balance at ISB is a stable institutional priority, and women applicants remain less crowded as a pool than male engineers. But a batch sitting at around 45 to 47 percent women means ISB is already near its goal. The marginal advantage is real, not unlimited. Your essays and recommendations still carry the decision.
Shift three: the work experience ceiling rose, and the floor tightened
The work experience range stretched from 2 to 17 years to 2 to 18 years, with average age steady at 26. At the same time, ISB has discontinued its old Young Leaders Programme and Early Entry Option routes into the PGP. Per the official deadlines page, anyone with under two years of experience is now pointed to the separate PGP YL programme.
The implication is simple. The PGP pool is now entirely 2-plus-year professionals, and the upper tail is getting longer. A 3-year applicant is no longer competing with a large block of deferred-entry students; they are competing with 5 to 8 year managers who bring team-leadership stories. If you sit at 2 to 3 years, your application has to show scope and ownership early, not just a good employer name.
If you are an IT services engineer with 3 to 5 years
This is the most crowded profile in every ISB cohort, and nothing in the Class of 2027 numbers suggests that has changed. The cohort draws from 12 industries and 15 functional areas, with ITeS, banking, and consulting named first in ISB's own description of the batch. You are competing mostly with people who look like you on paper.
What separates the admits we see: a GMAT at or above the 720 mean, a clear client-facing or delivery-leadership story, and a post-ISB goal that sounds specific (product management in B2B SaaS, not "general management"). Round 1 has closed. Round 2 closes on 6 December 2026, which gives you roughly ten weeks to fix a thin essay or retake the test once.
If you are from the Armed Forces, a PSU, medicine, or law
ISB explicitly named the Armed Forces, ISRO, BARC, entrepreneurs, doctors, lawyers, and creative professionals when describing the Class of 2027. That is not decoration. These profiles are how ISB builds the classroom mix it advertises, and they are admitted in small numbers every year.
Your risk is different from the engineer's. The admissions office will not doubt your uniqueness; it will doubt your transition. Your essays need to show why a one-year PGP, and why now, with a realistic first role after graduation. A GMAT in the high 600s can work here if the career logic is tight.
If you are a reapplicant
ISB says reapplicants typically make up 20 to 25 percent of the applicant pool each year, and they face "no advantage or disadvantage" versus first-time applicants. That is from the same deadlines page. The reapplicant essay is the whole game. Show a new responsibility, a better score, or a sharper goal since your last attempt. If you were waitlisted last cycle, your gap is probably narrower than you think.
The scholarship number most applicants misread
ISB awarded over Rs 12 crore in scholarships to about 13 percent of the Class of 2027, per the induction coverage. ISB's own deadlines page says approximately 25 percent of students receive scholarships every year. Both can be true: the 13 percent figure reflects awards announced at induction, while the broader figure may include need-based and later awards. Do not budget on either. Budget on the full fee, and treat any award as upside. Round 1 and Round 2 are where most merit money is decided, which is one more reason to pick your round deliberately.

Is the ISB Class of 2028 profile published?
No. The Class of 2028 will join in 2027, and its profile will only be published after induction. Any page quoting "Class of 2028 statistics" today is estimating. The latest verifiable data is the 839-student Class of 2027.
What GMAT do I need for the ISB PGP Class of 2028?
The most recent published mean is 720 (Class of 2026, per Clear Admit). For an over-represented profile such as an Indian male engineer in IT services, aim at or above that. For under-represented profiles, a score in the high 600s can work if the rest of the file is strong. The test is one input, not the decision.
Is it too late to apply for the Class of 2028?
Not at all. Round 1 closed on 20 September 2026, but Round 2 closes on 6 December 2026 and Round 3 on 17 January 2027. ISB states that competition is the same across rounds. Practically, Round 3 has fewer seats left to fill, so Round 2 is the realistic target if you are starting now.
Does applying to Mohali improve my chances?
ISB runs one admissions process for both campuses. There is no separate, easier Mohali cut-off. Openness to either campus simply gives the committee more flexibility, and with 415 of 839 seats in Mohali, that flexibility is real.

The cohort is about the same size, the gender balance stays close to half, and the work experience range keeps widening at the top. Your odds do not depend on a shift in ISB's intake.
