Bocconi is the cheapest respected European MiM, and Milan recruiting reads Bocconi first before it reads GPA

Bocconi MiM from India: Fees and the Italian Recruiting Market for Indians

If you are a final-year engineer in Pune with a 7.9 CGPA, a 670 GMAT and a family that has already said "not more than 50 lakh", you have probably wondered whether Bocconi is a clever choice or a consolation prize. My position is this: Bocconi is the best-value MiM in Europe for an Indian applicant, but only if you stop believing it is a shortcut into the Italian job market. The fee is the real argument. The "Milan recruiters love Bocconi" story is true for Italians and only partly true for you.

What Bocconi MiM from India actually costs in 2026

Bocconi's flagship pre-experience degree is the MSc in International Management. For 2026-27 entry, non-EU students pay the top bracket of EUR 18,550 a year, roughly EUR 37,100 over two years. The same source notes that only the first year is priced today; the second year is billed at the next published rate, so treat the two-year number as an estimate.

Milan adds EUR 12,000 to 16,000 a year in living costs on that page's figures. Add it up and the all-in two-year bill for an Indian applicant sits between about EUR 61,000 and EUR 69,000. That arithmetic is the page's own, not a number Bocconi states.

Two cautions. Partial waivers of 20 percent and 60 percent exist, but the fee page publishes no award amounts or eligibility rules, and the 20 and 60 percent figures it quotes are for EU students billed by income bracket. Do not budget for a waiver. And if you are comparing against Paris, our HEC Paris MiM breakdown and the ESSEC fee analysis show the gap is real: Bocconi's tuition is a fraction of either.

The Italian recruiting claim, tested against Bocconi's own numbers

Here is where I disagree with most Indian consultancy copy. Bocconi's placement page reports 94.6 percent employed one year after graduation for the 2022-23 class, and 78.4 percent employed on graduation day for the 2023-24 class. Of that graduation-day group, 71.7 percent work abroad, and graduates averaged 7.5 interviews and 1.9 offers.

Read the abroad figure again. Most of the students who land early are not staying in Milan. The Bocconi name travels across Europe; it does not trap you in Italy.

The MiM in Europe salary page tells a different story on geography: roughly 60 percent of graduates in Italy, 25 percent elsewhere in Europe, 15 percent beyond Europe, with industry led by consulting at 29 percent and finance and accounting at 21 percent. That page itself carries inconsistencies on employment timing, and the two sources disagree on where graduates end up. My reading is that the Italy-heavy split reflects the large domestic cohort, since about 59 percent of the class comes from Bocconi's own bachelor pipeline and other Italian universities. An international graduate's pattern looks more like the placement page's abroad-heavy one. That is an inference, not a published figure.

The FT-measured average salary of US $115,000 is pay about three years after graduation, not a starting offer. Do not put it in a loan-repayment model as year-one income.

If you are an engineer from a tier-2 college with no work experience

This is Bocconi's natural Indian applicant, and also the one most likely to mis-shortlist. The programme takes about 280 students, roughly 41 percent international, typically around 23 years old with 0 to 2 years of experience. The minimum on the IM track is a GMAT of 600 or a GRE of 150 in both sections, with admitted students averaging around 650. The same guide notes about two-thirds of seats are reserved for Bocconi's own bachelor graduates, so the external pool is tighter than the headline class size suggests. Aim for a GMAT in the high 600s and a transcript that proves quantitative ability.

If you are a CA or commerce graduate eyeing finance or luxury

Milan's pull is real in two sectors: banking and financial services, and luxury and consumer goods. The placement page lists recruiters from McKinsey, Bain and BCG to JP Morgan, UBS, LVMH and Kering. Your edge is a finance credential with a clear story. Your risk is language: Italian is not required for the degree, but domestic roles in mid-market and consumer firms often reward it. Start classes in semester one, not after graduation.

The visa window, and why it changes the plan

Italy offers graduates of Italian programmes a job-search permit under art. 39-bis.1 of the immigration code, set by law at not less than 9 and not more than 12 months. It converts to a work permit once you find qualifying employment, and since the 2023 Decreto Cutro that conversion no longer falls under the annual quota. That is better than the older folk wisdom suggests.

It is still a single, finite runway. Compare that with the UK Graduate Route, which is scheduled to shorten from January 2027, and with US OPT, where the September 2025 H-1B fee proclamation has already changed employer behaviour (see our note on the H-1B fee impact for Indian MBA applicants). Italy's permit looks modest on paper but is predictable, and predictability matters when you are borrowing.

What this means for Indian applicants

Apply to Bocconi if you are pre-experience, cost-sensitive, and ready to recruit across Europe from the first semester. Skip it if your goal is a specific French corporate pipeline or the highest brand ceiling; the answer there is a Paris school. The next Bocconi round deadline listed for the September 2027 intake is 29 October 2026, with later rounds on 26 January, 11 March and 29 April 2027, and seats and most scholarships go to earlier rounds.

Do not choose Bocconi because "Milan reads Bocconi first". Choose it because EUR 61,000 to 69,000 buys a top-15 FT-ranked degree and a Europe-wide recruiting base. If you want a read on whether your profile clears the bar, that is what a profile evaluation does, and our MBA Abroad hub places Bocconi against the wider MiM set.

Common questions

Is Bocconi MiM worth it for Indian students?

On cost per outcome, usually yes. At roughly EUR 37,100 in tuition for non-EU students, it undercuts the French Grande Ecole programmes, and 94.6 percent of the 2022-23 class was employed within a year. The catch is that most early hires leave Italy, so judge it as a European programme, not an Italian one.

What GMAT do I need for the Bocconi MSc International Management?

The minimum is 600 GMAT, or GRE 150 in both quantitative and verbal, and admitted students average about 650 with a 600 to 720 spread. Indian applicants are a crowded pool, so a score in the high 600s with a strong quantitative transcript is the safer target.

Can I work in Italy after Bocconi?

Yes. Graduates of Italian programmes can apply for a job-search permit of 9 to 12 months, which converts to a work permit once you are hired. You need to register with the public employment service and meet the income and insurance conditions, and you should confirm current rules with the Italian authorities.

Do I need Italian?

Not for the degree, which is taught in English. For domestic recruiting outside consulting and large multinationals, functional Italian widens your options noticeably.

Is a two-year MiM too long if I have work experience?

If you have three or more years of full-time work, a one-year MBA is usually a better fit. Bocconi's cohort is built around candidates with 0 to 2 years.
