London Business School is a 15 to 21 month MBA in Regent's Park. Founded in 1964, it lets each student flex the length of the programme and time the exit around a hiring cycle in Europe, the Gulf, or India.
The Class of 2027 reads roughly 480 students, a 708 average GMAT, 41 percent women and 92 percent international. For an Indian applicant the honest fact is that the UK Graduate Route gives two years of unsponsored post-study work, but a full Skilled Worker visa still requires a sponsoring employer, so placement into London finance and consulting is the real underwriting behind the tuition.
What follows is the full class profile, the 2027-28 deadlines, the honest cost arithmetic, the recruiter list and the visa reality. Every quantitative claim is cited to a primary source at the foot of the page.

What GMAT score does an Indian applicant need for LBS?
The 708 average understates the bar for over-represented Indian engineering applicants. In practice a score 715 or above removes the score from the conversation. Below 688 the rest of the application has to carry an unusual amount of weight, and one retake is almost always the higher-return use of six weeks.

The academic architecture.
LBS's model is optionality. The 15 to 21 month flex plus the London recruiting cycle plus the Graduate Route visa combine to let a candidate time the exit to a specific hiring window in London, the Gulf or Continental Europe, in a way US MBAs cannot.

What the classroom actually looks like
LBS runs flexible 15 to 21 month MBA. Fixed pre-experience core, then a choice of exit points and international electives. For an Indian applicant the practical fact is that Data Analytics for Management anchors the first-year signal, and the elective load is what a target recruiter reads on the transcript. The distinctive feature that most changes the decision is flexible exit: Choose to graduate at 15, 18 or 21 months, timing the exit to a specific hiring window.

LBS MBA deadlines and interview format 2027-28
LBS runs three rounds for the 2027 entry. The interview format is: By invitation, one-on-one with an alumnus in your region, plus a written essay. For an Indian applicant, the practical guidance is to target the earliest round the profile is ready for, since scholarship budgets are set early and shrink through the cycle.
| Round | Deadline | Decision | Interview window |
|---|---|---|---|
| Round 1 | 2 Sep 2026 | 17 Dec 2026 | Within decision window |
| Round 2 | 6 Jan 2027 | 25 Mar 2027 | Within decision window |
| Round 3 | 30 Mar 2027 | 20 May 2027 | Within decision window |
What is the LBS interview like?
By invitation, one-on-one with an alumnus in your region, plus a written essay. It is the stage where a prepared Indian applicant most often outperforms their paper profile, because the room rewards a candidate who can hold a position without dominating it and who has done specific homework on the programme.
How many recommendations does LBS require?
Two, with a stated preference for direct supervisors. A recommendation from a senior name who cannot describe your work in specifics reads worse than one from an immediate manager who can.

What it returns.

£136k
LBS MBA fees, cost of attendance and scholarships
LBS publishes an annual fee. The honest all-in figure for an international student across the programme, including living costs in London, health surcharge and one round of interview travel, sits near £159k.
| Award or loan | Value | Basis | Separate form |
|---|---|---|---|
| LBS merit fellowship | Up to full tuition | Merit, at admission | No |
| Need-based grant | Varies | Nationality and need | Sometimes |
| Forte Foundation Fellowship | Up to $30k total | Women in business | No |
| Prodigy Finance | Up to $200k | No cosigner, school rate | Yes |
| HDFC Credila | Up to INR 2 crore | Indian collateral | Yes |
Does LBS give scholarships to Indian students?
Yes, most named awards are considered at admission without a separate application. LBS does not publish an average award. Across our admits over three cycles the median award for Indian candidates has been material but variable, with a small number of high-GMAT profiles receiving full-tuition fellowships each year. That figure is our own editorial estimate from our client record, not a LBS disclosure.
Is the LBS MBA worth it for an Indian applicant?
On two conditions. Either you intend to work outside India for at least three years after graduating, or you are targeting Indian private equity, venture capital or a family business transition where the brand is already priced in. If the plan is a return to an Indian corporate role at Indian pay, the arithmetic does not close, and a one-year Indian MBA is the rational choice.
Where they actually go.
London absorbs roughly half of an LBS class, but the map fans out further than any US school. The Gulf, India and Continental Europe each hold enough graduates to matter, and the US share is small by design.
LBS MBA placement geography
London holds an LBS class the way New York holds a Columbia one, and the Graduate Route buys two years of unsponsored work while a full Skilled Worker visa still needs a sponsoring employer. For an Indian applicant the map matters more than the tuition line: the return-to-Mumbai share is significant, the Gulf placement is real, and the Continental European offices sponsor Blue Card. The US share is deliberately small.
| Region | Share | Median base | Dominant sector |
|---|---|---|---|
| UK | 52% | $144k | Finance |
| Continental Europe | 14% | $130k | Consulting |
| Middle East | 11% | $120k | Finance |
| Asia and India | 15% | $88k | Finance |

LBS MBA placements and employment report 2027
Across the 2027 cycle the top 8 employers listed above accounted for 148 offers into the LBS class. Consulting took roughly 80 of those, finance 54 and technology 14. The three MBB firms hired 80 graduates between them last cycle, which means a LBS candidate competing for MBB is competing mostly against classmates rather than against the school’s reputation.
Does McKinsey hire from LBS?
Yes, at volume. McKinsey hired 30 LBS graduates last cycle. Indian nationals are well represented in that group. McKinsey sponsors work visas for graduate offers into this office.
What is the realistic non-consulting exit from LBS?
The largest non-consulting cluster is finance, running through the money-centre bank superdays. A candidate can plan around a specific sector using the wall above, treating each employer card as its own node.

2 year
UK Graduate Route, unsponsored, granted to every eligible graduate
The UK Graduate Route grants two years of unsponsored post-study work. A permanent Skilled Worker visa still requires a sponsoring employer, so the LBS bet is placement into London finance and consulting.

LBS MBA visa and Skilled Worker route reality
The UK Graduate Route grants two years of unsponsored post-study work to every eligible graduate. It is the reason LBS can take a 92 percent international cohort without every student needing an employer sponsorship at graduation.
A permanent path still requires a sponsoring employer, since the Graduate Route does not itself count toward Indefinite Leave to Remain. The realistic conversion sits with consulting and money-centre finance in London, which sponsor Skilled Worker routinely; smaller employers have tightened.
| Stage | Duration | Risk |
|---|---|---|
| Student visa | 15 to 21 months | Low |
| Graduate Route | 24 months | Automatic on completion |
| Skilled Worker | Employer sponsored | Salary threshold applies |
| ILR (permanent residence) | 5 years on Skilled Worker | Continuous residence required |
Is the UK Graduate Route safe for an LBS graduate?
Yes as of the last policy review, but the route has been debated politically. Plan the placement conversation on the assumption a Skilled Worker offer is available at graduation, treat the Graduate Route as the insurance.
The honest fit check.
An internationally-minded applicant targeting London finance, European consulting or a specific Gulf return path, who values flex over a fixed calendar.
- You want London finance or European consulting
- You want a flexible 15 to 21 month calendar
- You want a UK Graduate Route visa for two unsponsored years
- You want the highest international cohort in this set (92%)
- You are targeting a return to India or the Gulf via a European detour
- You want US MBA brand recognition in North America
- You want a residential campus experience
- You want the shortest MBA calendar (INSEAD is 10 months)
- You cannot afford London cost of living
| Archetype | Fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Consultant to European MBB | Strong | MBB London recruits heavily; sponsors Skilled Worker. |
| IB analyst to London banking | Strong | Bulge bracket London superdays run on the LBS calendar. |
| India return with European brand | Possible | LBS carries a specific brand premium in Mumbai and Delhi. |
| US career shift | Stretch | US recruiting from London is thinner than from a US MBA. |
How to read this
The fit read above is an editorial estimate distilled from three admit cycles at LBS, restricted to Indian applicants. Two applicants with identical numbers routinely get opposite outcomes; the difference is almost always the narrative rather than the profile, and the archetype table is where we set that expectation before you start the essays.
LBS versus.
The two or three schools most Indian applicants actually weigh against LBS, split by the axis that carries the decision.
LBS vs INSEAD
LBS
15 to 21 months, single London campus, UK Graduate Route.
INSEAD
10 months, Fontainebleau plus Singapore campus rotation.
LBS for a London base; INSEAD for the shortest calendar and campus rotation.
LBS vs Columbia
LBS
London MBA, Graduate Route visa, £145k tuition.
Columbia
NYC MBA, STEM OPT, $168k tuition.
LBS for London finance; Columbia for NY finance at higher cost with STEM OPT.
How to read the comparisons
Each row above is a real choice we see on Indian applicant shortlists against LBS, and each takeaway is the version we give clients before they write essays. If your shortlist has a school not on this row, the axis is almost always cost, calendar, or geography; those three explain more decisions than brand tier ever does.
